The Star of David is the historic icon/symbol for the kingship of David. The prophets had written that the Messiah would come from the lineage of David. Because the Star of David is the icon/symbol for the kingship of David, the Star of David is actually the "sign"/icon/symbol for the Messiah, the Greatest King, or King of Kings, who would come from David's lineage and completely overshadow David.
Zechariah 12:8 (NIV) On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them.

Numbers 24:17-19 (NIV) "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth. 18 Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong. 19 A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city."
2 Samuel 7:12-16 (NIV) When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me ; your throne will be established forever.'"
Psalms 89:3-4 (NIV) You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, 4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.'" Selah

Psalms 132:11 (NIV) The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne--
Psalms 9:6-7 (NIV) Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. 7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment.
Isaiah 11:1 (NIV) A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
Matthew 22:44 (NIV) "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."'
Mark 12:36 (NIV) "David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."'
Luke 1:69-70 (NIV) He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David 70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
Luke 20:42-44 (NIV) "David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."' David calls him 'Lord.' How then can he be his son?"
John 7:42 (NIV) Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?"
God is one, but God is also a trichotomy, or Trinity consisting of Soul, Body, and Spirit. We can see two members of the Godhead by the second verse of the first chapter in the Holy Word of God, and we are able to see all three members of the Godhead by the fourth verse of the second chapter.
Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV) In the beginning God (Elohiym) created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) was hovering over the waters.
Genesis 2:4 (NIV) This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God (Adonai Elohiym - Jesus Christ) made the earth and the heavens--
It is apparent that God is a Trinity by how the seraphs worship God, referenced in Isaiah 6:1-3:
Isaiah 6:1-3 (NIV) In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."
God is a Trinity, and every aspect of the Trinity of God is Holy. The seraphs were calling to one another "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;" The Soul of God is Holy, the Spirit of God is Holy, and the Body of God is Holy. God is completely Holy, Holy, Holy.
The plurality of the One singular God is also revealed in Genesis 1:26:
Genesis 1:26 (NIV) Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
If God was speaking to angels, that would make angels equal and creators with God. The singular Godhead was speaking to the plurality of Himself.
John 1:1-3 (NIV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
As man was created in God's image, man is one; but like God, man is also a trichotomy, or trinity consisting of soul, body, and spirit.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, every facet of the trinity of man can and must be holy. We can see that man is a trinity by the prayer of the Apostle Paul:
1 Thessalonians 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We can see that man is a trinity by the admonition of the Lord God in Deuteronomy and in Matthew:
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (NIV) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your (1) heart and with all your (2) soul and with all your (3) strength.
Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your (1) heart and with all your (2) soul and with all your (3) mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We can see that man is a trinity by the three major furnishings that God directed to be placed within the Jewish Temple. The shewbread was food for the body, the seven candle menorah represented God or the soul, and the golden alter of incense was for the spirit. The priest was allowed into the Temple after sacrificing the blood of bulls and goats on the sacrificial alter outside the Temple. We are then given a fore-glimpse of Holiness in a recognition of the purification of soul, body, and spirit through the shewbread, menorah, and golden alter of incense, before entering the Holy of Holies for direct communion with God.
We can see that Jesus Christ is a Trinity, in the gifts that the Magi gave Jesus Christ at His birth. The gold was for the Soul or worship because Jesus Christ is God; the incense was for the Spirit because Jesus Christ is the High Priest, and the myrrh (an embalming spice) was for the Body because Jesus Christ's Body was going to die.
Matthew 2:1-2 & 11 (NIV) After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." ..& 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
Jesus Christ was tempted as a man in every way.
Hebrews 4:15 (NIV) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.
Jesus Christ was tempted as a man "in every way", which was three ways, again revealing and proving that man is a trinity consisting of Soul, Body, and Spirit. Jesus Christ's Body was tempted, Jesus Christ's Spirit was tempted, and Jesus Christ's Soul was tempted.
Jesus Christ's first temptation was a temptation of the (1) Body. While there is certainly nothing wrong with eating, the devil was tempting Jesus Christ to satisfy a natural need or desire at the direction of the devil, and outside of the requirements that God had set forth for Jesus Christ at that time.
Matthew 4:1-4 (NIV) Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Jesus Christ's second temptation was a temptation of the (2) Spirit. While Jesus Christ is fully God and worthy of worship, Jesus Christ was also fully man and had to resist temptation as a man. The temptation was for Jesus Christ to prove to the devil and to the world that Jesus Christ is the Christ. This was a temptation of Pride, which would have been a sin of the Spirit.
Matthew 4:5-7 (NIV) Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
Jesus Christ's third temptation was a temptation of the (3) Soul. The soul is the very essence of who YOU are. It is YOUR inner core from which all of YOUR thoughts and actions come forth. YOU are designed and instructed to worship the Creator, and not the creation. To worship the creation and not the Creator was a temptation of, and would have been a sin against the Soul. Jesus Christ recognized it as a temptation of the Soul, or a temptation to worship the creation rather than the Creator, and in His typical manner, Jesus Christ directly addressed the core of the temptation.
Matthew 4:8-11 (NIV) Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." 10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Adam and Eve were tempted in the exact same three ways that Jesus Christ would later be tempted in:
Genesis 3:6 (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was (1. temptation of the body) good for food and (2. temptation of the soul) pleasing to the eye, and also (3. temptation of pride - the spirit) desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Gaining wisdom is not a sin. It was pride creating a desire in her heart that others know that she had gained wisdom.)
Every man is also tempted in the exact same three ways of body, soul, and spirit that Jesus Christ, and Adam and Eve were tempted in:
1 John 2:16 (KJV) For all that is in the world, (1) the lust of the flesh, and (2) the lust of the eyes, and (3) the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The Star of David is made up of two equilateral triangles. One triangle is pointing down, and the other triangle is pointing up. The triangle that is pointing down is God's triangle and represents the Trinity of Soul, Body, and Spirit; or God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit of God reaching down to man. The triangle that is pointing up is man's triangle and also represents the trinity of soul, body, and spirit, but of man reaching up to God.
The Star of David represents:
2. what Jesus Christ did - Man was reconciled to God only through Jesus Christ.
3. what Jesus Christ does - Only in Jesus Christ do God and man have At-One-Ment.
4. what the "Born Again" Children of God are able to do through Jesus Christ - The Star of David is the symbol that fully represents the spiritual intercourse referenced in John chapter 17 where Jesus Christ is in God, man is in Jesus Christ, and thereby man is in God through faith in Jesus Christ.
The "sign"/icon/symbol for the Messiah, the Greatest King, or King of Kings; who would come from the lineage of David, who would be fully God and also fully man throughout eternity can only be Jesus the Christ - the God/Man.
Revelation 22:16 (NIV) "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."
Six million Jewish people went to their deaths during the horrors of World War II with the "sign"/icon/symbol of Jesus Christ sewed on their clothes. Today, the State of Israel flies a flag over their nation that contains the "sign"/icon/symbol of a King that the Jewish people do not recognize:
Luke 19:41-44 (NIV) As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace-but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."
Matthew 5:34-35 (NIV) "But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King."

Hosea 3:4-5 (NIV) For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol. Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to His blessings in the last days.
How long has it been since the Israelites had sacrifice or sacred stones, ephod or idol? The answer is approximately 2,000 years which just happens to be almost the exact amount of time that has elapsed since the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Israelites are not looking for David personally, but for the Messiah who would come from the lineage of David.
The Lord their God IS David their king.
Deuteronomy 4:27-31 (NIV) The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the LORD will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. 29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. 31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.
The Star of David is the Star of Jesus Christ.
